Maths
At Little Bees Tutoring, our maths sessions are designed to make learning accessible and enjoyable for all children while covering all key areas of the maths curriculum.
We can cover a variety of maths topics up to Year-4 level of learning, including:
- Number Sense: Numbers and counting, focusing on understanding the concept of quantity and place value.
- Basic Operations: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, encouraging children to grasp these fundamental skills.
- Fractions and Decimals: Unit-fractions and non-unit fractions. Finding fractions of shape and quantity. Understanding tenths, hundredths, quarters, halves and three-quarters as decimals and fractions, etc.
- Shapes and Measurement: Exploring shapes, sizes, and basic measurement concepts, as well as introducing geometry vocabulary and concepts like symmetry.
- Problem Solving: Developing problem-solving skills and encouraging critical thinking, through various maths challenges and puzzles.
- Data and Probability: Providing a glimpse into data representation, interpretation of graphs, and introductory concepts of probability in an age-appropriate manner.
- Time and Money: Exploring the concept of time, including reading clocks and understanding time intervals, along with basic money concepts such as recognising coins and making simple transactions.
- Mathematical Reasoning: Encouraging children to explain their thinking, justify their answers, and understand the reasoning behind mathematical concepts.

English Skills
At Little Bees Tutoring, our writing sessions enable children to explore the wonderful world of language, communication and literature. We can focus on:
- Grammar and Punctuation: Basic grammar rules and punctuation, helping children understand how to structure sentences correctly.
- Sentence Building: We work on building the foundations for structuring engaging sentences, which helps to encourage further writing.
- Creative Writing: Children are encouraged to express their creativity through storytelling, poetry, and imaginative writing exercises, nurturing a love of story telling.
- Vocabulary Building: Introduce and expand children's vocabulary through engaging activities such as story telling, reading, discussions, and interactive word-building activities.
- Comprehension Skills: Teaching strategies for understanding, interpreting and responding to texts, helping children become more confident and proficient readers.
- Spelling: Helping children to develop their spelling skills, including common and high-frequency words, and the use of phonics to decode and write words.
Phonics
Phonics plays a crucial role in developing a child's English skills.
At Little Bees Tutoring, phonics sessions are fun, engaging and carefully designed to help young learners become confident readers and writers. In these sessions we will cover:
- Letter Sounds: Introduce and reinforce phonetic sounds from all phonic phases, using a variety of multisensory activities to ensure that children grasp the fundamentals of phonics, which are important for decoding words.
- Blending and Segmenting: Teaching strategies for decoding and understanding words, such as segmenting and blending. Children learn to blend letter sounds to read simple words and segment words into individual sounds for spelling. This helps them become confident readers and writers.
- Phonemic Awareness: Develop phonemic awareness, helping children hear and manipulate sounds in words.
- Phonics Games and Activities: Use of interactive games, flashcards, and hands-on activities to make learning phonics fun and engaging.
- High-Frequency Words: Sight words and high-frequency words commonly found in early reading materials, enabling children to read and write with more fluency.
- Letter Recognition: Introduce children to the alphabet, helping them recognise and name individual letters.
- Writing with Phonics: Practise sentence building/writing, using our phonetic knowledge from all phonic phases.
